The Green Township Volunteer Fire Department currently consists of members who live in the townships of Green and Frelinghuysen. These members come from all walks of life including businessmen, college and high school students, township officials, craftsmen, business owners, township workers, and police officers. In order to become a state certified firefighter within the New Jersey State Fireman's Association, a person must complete the basic level of firefighter training which is Firefighter I. The course, which is taught at county fire academies such as Sussex County Fire Academy and Morris County Fire Academy, is 140 hours in length and is often split up over 5-6 months with a frequency of 2-3 nights per week. Each class often begins at 7pm and end at 10pm. More information can be obtained by contacting the Chief or Assistant Chief. The GTFD is always looking fore new members who are willing to devote a small portion of their time to serving their community and protecting their neighbors. The duties of each firefighter vary, and each member helps the department within his or her own levels of comfort and flexibility. For questions or additional information contact Chief Rich Porzilli at chief@greentownshipfd.com or Assistant Chief Nick Pachnos at asst.chief@greentownshipfd.com
