MVA with Entrapment
June 25, 2007

At 0324 hours Station 95 Fire and 95 Rescue units were dispatched to the area of 128 Hibler Rd. for the one car motor vehicle accident into the tree with possible entrapment.  Rescue-Engine 95-61 responded with four including the Assistant Chief and the Captain.  The Chief went direct to the scene and confirmed the entrapement.  Upon arrival, the crew from 95-61 went to work securing the vehicle and removing the passenger side door.  Northstar Medevac was requested and the LZ was established at Green Hills School by Andover Boro (Station 22) Fire.  Units returned to quarters by 0500.

 

Landing Zone for Allamuchy-Green FAS
June 15, 2007

At 0853 hours Station 95 Fire was requested by Station 95 Rescue to the Garden State Academy to set up the landing zone for Northstar Medevac for the trauma patient.  Rescue-Engine 95-61 responded with 4 including the Captain.  The crew set up the LZ and assisted with patient transport.  All units returned to service at 0955 hours.

2 MVAs in 2 Days
June 3 & 4, 2007

On June 3, Station 95 Fire and 95 Rescue units were dispatched at 1621 hours to the report of a two car motor vehicle accident with injuries.  Rescue-Engine 95-61 responded with 5 including the Captain.  Upon arrival, crews secured the vehicles and checked for leaks while the Fire Police controlled traffic.  Units cleared at 1657. 

The following day units were alerted at 0705 to the intersection of Pequest Rd. and Airport Rd. for the motor vehicle accident.  Rescue-Engine 95-61 and Engine 95-62 responded with 8 including the Captain.  Upon arrival, crews found one car into a tree, mitigated hazards, helped with patient packaging, and cleared the scene at 0745.

Tree on Fire
June 1, 2007

At 1759 hours Station 95 Fire and 95 Rescue units were dispatched to 104 Lanning Rd. in Frelinghuysen Twp. for the report of the tree on fire.  Engine 95-62 responded first due with 5 and the Assistant Chief onboard followed by Rescue-Engine 95-61The Chief went direct to the scene.  Upon arrival crews found a tree well involved with fire due to a lightning strike.  Rescue-Engine 95-61 was used for its 4X4 capabilities and booster line.  Because of the drought, Andover Boro FD and Fredon FD were called for brush trucks and Allamuchy Fire was called for a tanker for precautions.  Crews extinguished the fire and returned to service at 1932 hours.

Furnace Malfunction
May 26, 2007

At 1910 hours units were dispatched to the Stacker 2 factory for the report of smoke showing from the building.  The Assistant Chief went direct to the scene and found heavy smoke showing from the delta side of the building.  Engine 95-62 responded first due followed by Rescue-Engine 95-61.  The alarm also brought in the Andover Boro Fire Department (Station 22) for mutual aid.  After crews investigated, the source was found to be a malfunctioning furnace.  Units cleared the scene at 2001.

Two Car MVA with Injuries
May 25, 2007

At 1312 hours units were dispatched to CR517 and Whitehall Rd. for the two car motor vehicle accident.  Rescue Engine 95-61 responded first due with the Captain on board.  Crews arrived on scene, mitigated hazards, and helped with patient packaging.  Crews cleared the scene and returned to service at 1407.

Late Night MVA
May 21, 2007

At 0121 hours units were requested to respond to the intersection of CR517 and Park Terrace for the motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries.  Rescue-Engine 95-61 responded first due.  The Chief and the Assistant both went direct to the scene.  Upon arrival units found a car into the woods with no victims and were released by the State Police.  Fire Police Captain Vinny controlled traffic at the scene.  Units cleared at 0145.

Back to Back Runs
May 18, 2007

At 1922 hours Station 95 Fire and Rescue units were alerted to the intersection of Shotwell Rd. and CR519 for the rollover motor vehicle accident.  Rescue Engine 95-61 responded first due with four including the Captain and the Assistant ChiefEngine 95-62 responded second due.  Upon arrival, crews found that both patients had gotten out of the vehicle and were uninjured.  Units cleared the scene at 1933.  Before units returned to the firehouse, they were alerted to the James Alexander Corporation for the smoke condition.  Crews investigated and found the source to be a small fire that had been extinguished by employees.  Units cleared and returned to the firehouse by 2001. 

Landing Zone
May 5, 2007

At 1857 hours Station 95 Fire units were requested by 95 Recsue/EMS to respond to Green Hills School to set up a landing zone for Northstar Medevac for the burn victim.  The Chief (95-60) responded direct to the scene and established command while Engine 95-62 responded with 5 including the Lieutenant (95-90).  All units cleared the LZ and returned to service at 1948 hours.

Illegal Open Burn
April 27, 2007

At 2010 hours Station 95 Fire units were requested to respond to 25 Muller Rd. in Frelinghuuysen Twp. for the possible illegal open burn.  The Chief (95-60) and the Captain (95-80), both went direct to the scene and 95-60 established incident command and confirmed that the burn was illegal.  Rescue-Engine 95-61 responded with three including the Assistant Chief (95-70) followed by Tanker 95-71.  The crew from 95-61 used the booster line to extinguish the fire.  Units cleared the scene at 2040 hours.

Brush Fire
April 22, 2007

At 1709 hours Station 95 Fire units were requested to respond in the area of 104 Allamuchy Rd. for the brush fire.  The Chief (95-60) went direct to the scene and established incident command.  Rescue-Engine 95-61 responded with the Assistant Chief (95-70) followed by Tanker 95-71.  The crew from 95-61 used the booster line to extinguish the fire.  Units cleared the scene at 1800 hours.

Motorcycle Accident
April 22, 2007

At 1100 hours Station 95 Fire and 95 EMS units were dispatched to Rt. 611 Kennedy Rd. for the motorcycle accident.  Rescue-Engine 95-61 responded first due.  Engine 95-62 responded to Green Hills School to establish the LZ.  The patient was flown to Morristown Memorial Trauma Center.

Service to the Community
April 15-18, 2007

From April 15-18, the GTFD responded to 12 calls for pump out assistance due to the strong rainstorm over the weekend.  Over 100 man hours of service were spent helping the community recover from the flooding.

Brush Fire
April 11, 2007

At 1020 hours Station 95 Fire units were requested to respond to 29 Hunts School Rd. for the brush fire.  Rescue-Engine 95-61 responded with 3 including the Assistant Chief (95-70).  Tanker 95-71 responded with 2.  Upon arrival, the crew from 95-61 used the booster line to extinguish the quickly spreading grass fire.  Forest Fire units were also on scen and assisted.  Units returned to service by 1052.

Fully Involved Barn Fire
April 4, 2007

At 13:45 Station 95 Fire and EMS units were dispatched to the area of 21 Fieldview Rd. for the report of smoke showing.  Upon receiving numerous 911 calls, units were alerted that the correct address was 168 Pequest Rd. for the confirmed working barn fire.  Engine 95-62 responded first due with the Captain and confirmed that the barn was fully involved, therefore restricting attack teams to defensive operations.  Rescue-Engine 95-61 and Tanker 95-71 followed.  Exposures close to the barn were protected and saved.

Andover Township (Station 32) was requested to set up a draft site out of the Pequest River to fill tankers.  Andover Boro (Station 22) responded to the scene with their ladder and established pipe ops.  Tankers responded to the scene from Fredon, Stillwater, Byram, Allamuchy, and Andover Township.  R.I.T. teams from Sparta and Netcong responded to the scene and set up on the Alpha and Charlie sides of the structure. Tanker shuttles and portable pools were used as water supply for the fire.

More than a dozen antique cars were stored in the barn and destroyed by the fire.  Among the cars destroyed in the fire were a 1902 steam powered car, a 1949 Chevrolet convertible, a 1911 Ford Model T Torpedo which was a former Coca Cola car, the Karmann Ghia used by John F. Kennedy Jr. when he went to college.  Other cars had been used in movies starring Meryl Streep and Robert DeNiro.  Fire Police Captain Vinny controlled traffic and scene access with the help of fire police from Allamuchy.  A bucket loader was required to move the remains of the building around in order to extinguish hot spots.  The cars, rubber, and old cedar construction fueled the fire.  Units performed overhaul and cleared the scene at 20:50.

Chimney Fire
February 25, 2007

At 21:55 Station 95 Fire was requested to respond to 100 Wolfs Corner Rd. for the report of the chimney fire.  The Chief and the Assistant went direct and established incident command, reporting heavy smoke showing and requested and Engine and a Tanker to respond in from Fredon (Station 27) Fire.  Engine 95-62 responded with 2 including the CaptainEngine 95-61 responded with 2.  The Assistant Chief established operations and sent a roof team to the roof and an interior team to the attic.  The roof team cut an access hole to determine the extension of the fire.  A handline was used to extinguish the rest of the fire in the chimney and to cool down the charred beams.  Units cleared at 00:27.

Illegal Burn
February 25, 2007

At 18:09 Station 95 Fire was requested to respond to the area of 128 Ramsey Rd. for the report of flames and black smoke showing.  The Captain and the Chief responded direct and found a rubbish fire at 96 Ramsey Rd.  Engine 95-61 responded with 5 including the Assistant Chief.  Upon arrival, the crew from 95-61 extinguished the fire using the booster line.  Engine 95-62 responded with 2 and Allamuchy (Station 91) Fire responded with their tanker.  Forest Fire arrived on scene and units cleared at 19:25.

Water Heater Fire
February 21, 2007

At 16:30 Station 95 Fire was requested to respond to 40 Summit Rd. for the water heater fire in the house.  Engine 95-62 responded with 2 including the Captain.  Upon arrival, Captain Pachnos established incident command.  After finding that the fire was propane fed, command immediately requested a full response from Byram Township (Station 43) Fire Department.  The gas supply was shut down and the fire was extinguished.  The propane company was requested to respond to determine the origin of the leak.  After the situation was under control, units cleared at 18:30.

MVA - Truck vs. Guardrail
February 19, 2007

At 00:47 Station 95 Fire and Station 95 EMS units were alerted to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of CR603 and CR606 in the area of Cahill's Farm.  Rescue-Engine 95-61 responded first due with 3 including the Captain and LieutenantThe Chief and the Assistant Chief responded direct to the scene and established incident command, advising dispatch and responding units that the occupant was out of the vehicle and had sustained facial injuries.  Crews checked the vehicle for hazards and were cleared from the scene at 01:15. 

Full Response into Fredon
February 15, 2007

At 01:32 95 Fire units were requested for a full response to Hilltop Rd. in Fredon for the working structure fire.  Engine 95-62 responded with 3 including the Lieutenant followed by Rescue-Engine 95-61 with 3 including the CaptainThe Chief responded direct to the scene.

Upon arrival, crews found the house to be well involved.  Crews used the two 200' 1 3/4" preconnects off of Rescue-Engine 96-61 as well as the barn line to attack the fire.  After the fire was under control, crews performed overhaul operations and cleared the scene at 06:30.

 

Reported Structure Fire
February 12, 2007

At 18:51 95 Fire units were requested to respond to 232 Decker Pond Rd. for the report of the working structure fire.  The Assistant Chief responded direct to the scene and established incident command advising units that flames were showing.  Engine 95-62 responded with the Captain and Lieutenant.  The Chief arrived on scene and assumed incident command from the Assistant. After further investigation, crews found the source to be a garbage fire.  The crew from Rescue-Engine 95-61 used the booster line to extinguish the fire.  Units cleared the scene and returned to service at 19:36.

Mutual Aid Trailer Home Fire
February 3, 2007

At 13:10 95 Fire units were requested to respond with Tanker 95-71 into Allamuchy to assist the Allamuchy Fire Department with water supply at a trailer home fire.  Engine 95-62 was also requested to set up a draft site to fill tankers.  95-71 responded with two including the Lieutenant while 95-62 responded with 2 and the Captain.  95-60 (The Chief) also responded.  Once the fire was under control, units cleared the scene at 15:43.

Smoke in the Building
January 23, 2007

At 17:32 Station 95 Fire units were alerted to the report of smoke in the machine shop at the J Bar Silicone company at 252 Brighton Ave.  Station 22 Fire was also requested for mutual aid.  The Chief went direct and set up incident command while the Assistant controlled operations.  Engine 95-62 responded with 2 and the Lieutenant while 95-61 responded with the Captain.  Upon arrival, crews found white smoke in the building and investigated using the thermal imaging camera.  After the source could not be determined, power was shut down to the building and the owner was advised to call an electrician.  Units returned to headquarters at 18:20.

Open Burn Assistance
January 15, 2007

At 15:59 Station 95 Fire units were requested to respond to the Tranquil Valley Retreat Center to assist with the extinguishment of a controlled burn.  95-61 responded with 2 and the Chief and 95-71 responded with the Lieutenant.  The crew used the booster line off 95-61 to extinguish the small remainder of fire in the brush and returned to Station 95 headquarters.

Mutual Aid Into Sparta
January 14, 2007

At 17:43 Station 95 Fire was requested to send Tanker 95-71 to respond to the working structure fire at the Sparta Trades Building located at 580 Rt. 15.  95-71 responded with 2 and helped the Sparta Fire Department with water supply through tanker shuttles.  Once the fire was under control, 95-71 was released and returned to quarters.

Early Morning CO Alarm
January 3, 2007

Station 95 Fire units were alerted at 06:14 to 29 Summit Rd. for the activated carbon monoxide alarm. The Chief responded direct to the scene and established incident command while Engine 95-62 responded with 3 and the Captain. Upon arrival, the crew from 95-62 used the gas detector to check the house for CO but found nothing. Units returned to headquarters at 07:05.

Mutual Aid Into Fredon
January 2, 2007

At 14:02 Station 95 Fire units were alerted to a mutual aid response into Fredon township in the area of 513 Rt. 94 to assist the Fredon Volunteer Fire Company with a van into a telephone pole with wires down.  Rescue-Engine 95-61 responded with 3 and the Assistant Chief.  Upon arrival, 95 fire units helped Station 27 with traffic control.  Units returned to headquarters at 14:49.

Chimney Fire
December 21, 2006


At approximately 22:46 Station 95 Fire and 95 Rescue EMS units were requested to respond to the chimney fire at 38 Highland Ave. Engine 95-62 was first due and responded with 3 followed by Rescue-Engine 95-61 and Tanker 95-71. Upon arrival, crews used the TIC to check for possible fire in the walls and emptied the wood burning stove. Finding no major hazards, units cleared the scene at 23:59.
 

MVA, Minor Injuries
December 21, 2006



At approximately 17:17 Station 95 Fire units were alerted along with 95 Rescue EMS to the reported two car motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Ramsey Rd. and CR519. 95-61 was first due and responded with 3 followed by 95-62. Upon arrival, all victims were out of the cars and 95 Fire units checked the vehicles, helped direct traffic, and mitigated hazards. Units cleared the scene at 18:11
